£2.40 - On Sale

Prototype lamp letter boxes were made by Handyside and Co. of Derby.
Pressing applications from residents in London squares to have a posting facility at hand were finally met by the attachment of these boxes to lamp-posts, as walls were often not accessible. A row of small holes was drilled in the box to drain away rainwater. Lamp boxes were used extensively in rural areas.
